Jil Sander Navy S/S 2011 Ad Campaign Feat. Valerija Kelava by David Sims.

Feifei Sun For Dsquared2 S/S 2011 Ad Campaign by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.

Did someone hire the same photographer?
Or creative director for that matter.

Seems as if the two established designers intentionally decide to mimic each other. Both ads come from their ss 2011 campaigns and I'm sure that I am not the only one to recognize the resemblance. I mean, imagine turning the pages of your favorite fashion magazine and realizing that you got two very distinctive designers mixed up. Jil Sander is all about 'pop' and chic lines while Dsquared has always been in tune with more playful, less serious styles.

The tricky thing in my opinion about shooting in black and white is that sometimes the clothes get lost and it becomes more about the model than anything. I feel like there should a balance between great clothes and model faces. When I look at an ad I look for details and concept. In the photos above I only get concept: Black, white, bold, sharp, simple. There is absolutely nothing wrong with those characteristics; however, I feel like the 'fashion' aspect was lost. Fashion does go beyond clothing but you've have to start somewhere...

Nothing More.
